One of my closest and dearest friends, Joe, is an immaculate dresser. He wears a lot of quality clothing (I think J. Peterman is his favorite), but doesn't have a huge wardrobe. Recently I was indulging my Kennedys interest, and read that Carolyn Bessette Kennedy was the same way with clothing.
This got me thinking about my own closet, and how often I've bought a cheap shirt from somewhere like Forever 21 and only worn it once, or not been pleased with how its made or fits. I think from here on out I am going to try to buy less clothing, but more classic and quality pieces.
I noticed that Carolyn Bessette Kenndy wore a lot of neutral colors, and a lot of timeless silhouettes . Some of the pictures I found of her were very 90s, but most of her clothing could be worn today.
I think I've already been leaning more in this direction with my shopping habits (today I am wearing a Calvin Klein sheath dress and it fits like a glove, I love it!), but now I am really going to make a conscious effort to only invest in pieces that will last and that I will love for a long time.
Happy Monday!
I've been trying to do that too! I just got a lot of pieces I love from the Loft, but as someone who usually buys Target dresses, there was a lot of sticker shock to get over.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right about this. I have a few nice pieces that I splurged on several years ago, and I still love to wear them. It's amazing when you buy timeless quality clothing, it seems to stay in style for much longer!
ReplyDeleteYou are right about this! I have thrown around the idea of completely throwing out EVERYTHING I own and by throwing out I mean donating everything I own and starting over. A girl can wish. In the mean time I think I am gonna start adding 1 thing here and there and make sure to get rid of some of the old "crap"
ReplyDeleteThis is how I shop! I'll buy a few trendy things every season, but I spend the majority of my clothing/accessory budget on timeless pieces! I've found that they (usually) last so much longer and always look chic.
ReplyDeleteI spend more on classic pieces, but buy the 'in' stuff from the cheapo places, since it only needs to last for the season or however long I decide I like it. Happy medium!
